Brian Kenny was born on October 18, 1963, in New York City and grew up on Long Island. He attended St. John’s University for a year, then transferred to the New York Institute of Technology. He graduated magna cum laude in 1985 and broke into local news that same year at WLIG-TV. Kenny then spent the next eleven years as sports director at WTZA-TV in Kingston, New York.

ESPN hired Kenny in 1997, where he anchored the 6 p.m. edition of SportsCenter and hosted Baseball Tonight. He also hosted Friday Night Fights on ESPN2 and won a Sports Emmy with the Baseball Tonight team in 2003. Kenny left ESPN in 2011 to join the fast-growing MLB Network.
