Greg Amsinger was born on May 24, 1979, in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Lindenwood University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in communication. While in college, he gained practical experience through internships and local broadcasting opportunities, laying the foundation for a career in sports television. He then began his career as the sports director for WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Indiana.
In 2003, Amsinger became the first on-air host for College Sports Television, later CBS Sports Network. He fronted shows including Inside College Football and Crystal Ball. He also hosted the SEC Preview Show in 2006 and co-hosted the World Series of Video Games in 2007. In 2008, he covered the Tour de France for CBS, capping his run as a versatile studio host.
Greg Amsinger joined MLB Network as a studio host before its January 2009 launch. He has anchored MLB Tonight ever since, a show that won a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Studio Show in 2015. He also hosts the network’s MLB Draft, All-Star Game, and World Series coverage. During the offseason, he calls Big Ten Network college basketball, and since July 2024, he has served as a studio host for MLB on TBS.
