Matt Yallof was born on September 24, 1968, in Smithtown, New York. He graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1990 before beginning his broadcasting career behind the scenes at CNBC. He later joined CNN, CNN Sports, and CNNSI, where he transitioned from news into sports broadcasting while anchoring Headline Sports and contributing to international sports coverage.
Yallof continued his career at WKBW-TV in Buffalo before spending six years at Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. There, he hosted Phillies postgame coverage, reported on the Flyers, and co-anchored SportsNite. His work earned four Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards. He later became the primary studio host for the New York Mets’ pregame and postgame coverage on SportsNet New York before joining MLB Network when it launched in 2009.
At MLB Network, Yallof has become one of the network’s most familiar studio personalities. He regularly hosts The Rundown, Big Inning, MLB Network Strike Zone, and MLB Tonight while leading breaking news and live game coverage. In 2016, he suffered an ischemic stroke and underwent extensive rehabilitation before returning to the network in 2017. He has since become an advocate for stroke awareness through his work with the National Stroke Association.
