MLB Network

Quick facts about the channel

MLB Network is an American cable channel dedicated entirely to Major League Baseball. It launched on January 1, 2009, following a soft launch of archival footage on December 16, 2008. Its premiere reached nearly 50 million homes, making it the largest cable launch in TV history at that time. Headquartered in Secaucus, New Jersey, MLB Network is majority-owned by Major League Baseball, with TNT Sports holding a minority stake.

The network’s daily programming runs from late morning until the final out of the night. Rotating studio shows feature highlights, breaking news, and analysis for fans across every time zone. Coverage intensifies during spring training, the trade deadline, and the postseason, with signature shows broadcasting live from ballparks. Additionally, the network produces its own live-game package, MLB Network Showcase, and documentaries tied to Hall of Fame inductions.

MLB Central anchors the weekday morning schedule, with Mark DeRosa, Robert Flores, and Lauren Shehadi providing highlights, interviews, and light-hearted commentary. Evenings are reserved for the Emmy-winning MLB Tonight, the network’s flagship show, led by Greg Amsinger and Matt Vasgersian, who deliver live look-ins and postgame reactions each night.

During the offseason, the morning slot is taken over by Hot Stove, where Vasgersian, Harold Reynolds, and Shehadi track free agency and trade rumors. Brian Kenny hosts the data-driven MLB Now, breaking down advanced metrics with insiders such as Jon Morosi. Big Inning, hosted by Matt Yallof and Gregg Caserta, features live look-ins across the league each night.

Since its inception in 2009, MLB Network has expanded to include more than 40 on-air personalities, including several Hall of Famers. The network provides coverage for all 30 clubs year-round, from spring training through the World Series.
