Nicholas Verity Knight was born on 28 November 1969 in Watford, Hertfordshire. He was named after the 1930s England bowler Hedley Verity, a distant family relative killed in World War II.
Knight attended Felsted School in Essex and later studied sociology at Loughborough University, graduating in 1991. He began his county career with Essex before moving to Warwickshire in 1995, where he became a key player and captain from 2003 to 2005.
He made his England debut in the 1990s and went on to play 17 Tests and 100 One Day Internationals, retiring from international cricket after the 2003 World Cup. He finished his first-class career in 2006 with more than 16,000 runs and 40 hundreds.
After retiring, Knight joined Sky Sports as a commentator and pundit, becoming a regular on their cricket programmes, including coverage of overseas England tours, County Championship, women’s cricket, and The Hundred alongside other veterans like Mark Butcher, Nasser Hussain, and Eion Morgan.
