Ebony-Jewel Rainford-Brent, born 31 December 1983, was born to an African-American father and Jamaican mother at St Thomas’ Hospital, Lambeth, and was brought up in Herne Hill, southeast London.

She was the youngest of four children and the only girl, which led to her being given the full name Ebony-Jewel Cora-Lee Camellia Rosamond Rainford-Brent.

She was named UCL Sportswoman of the Year in March 2007 and graduated from University College London with a Master’s in Chemistry, having overcome a serious back injury that nearly ended her career as a teenager.

In 2020, she became part of the Sky Sports Cricket commentary team, and she is also known for the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast. She remains a lead voice on Sky Sports and Test Match Special, alongside chairing the ACE Programme charity and serving as an ECB Non-Executive Director.
