Nasser Hussain was born on 28 March 1968 in Madras (now Chennai), India. He is the youngest of four children of an Indian-Muslim father, Jawad “Joe” Hussain, and an English mother, Shireen Hussain. The family moved from India to Ilford, East London, in 1975.
He attended Forest School in Walthamstow and later studied at Durham University. He made his first-class debut for Essex in 1987 and played for the county until 2004.
Hussain made his England Test debut in 1990 and captained England from 1999 to 2003. He retired from international cricket in 2004 and immediately joined Sky Sports as a commentator.
He is one of Sky Sports’ lead cricket commentators, appearing on coverage of Tests, ODIs and domestic matches alongside Michael Atherton, Stuart Broad, Eion Morgan and others. He lives in Essex with his family and is known for his analytical, measured commentary style.
