The Road

The Road premiered in October 2025 on CBS as a country music competition series created in partnership with country star Blake Shelton and producer Taylor Sheridan. The show was designed to spotlight emerging country artists through a touring format rather than a traditional studio-based singing competition. It marked CBS’s continued expansion into music-focused reality programming.

Unlike conventional talent competitions, The Road follows contestants as they join an established headlining country artist on tour. Performers travel to different cities and compete through live performances in front of real audiences. Their performances are evaluated based on audience response and industry feedback, blending authentic concert experiences with competitive elimination.

The format emphasizes live performance. stage presence, and the ability to connect with fans night after night. As the tour progresses, contestants face eliminations until one artist remains. The winner receives a significant career opportunity within the country music industry.

The series is hosted by Blake Shelton, who also serves as an executive producer, and country music star Keith Urban, who is also the headlining touring artist and mentors contestants throughout the competition. The show also features “Tour Manager” Gretchen Wilson, a Grammy winner who provides direct, unfiltered coaching to the rising stars.
