Jeff Probst is an Emmy-award-winning TV host and producer. He attended Seattle Pacific University but left before graduating to pursue a television career. Some of his early hosting roles include the shows Sound FX and Backhat on FX and Rock & Roll Jeopardy! on VH1. Additionally, he worked as a correspondent for Access Hollywood and wrote and directed the Lionsgate film Finders Fee.
Probst’s career reached a turning point in 2000 when he was hired to host the American version of Survivor. His role evolved significantly over the years; in 2010, he was named an executive producer, giving him substantial creative control over the franchise’s direction. The 50th season of the show premieres on February 25, 2026, with Probst still at the helm.
Beyond the island, Probst has ventured into talk shows and literature. He hosted The Jeff Probst Show, a syndicated daytime talk program, from 2012 to 2013. He is also the author of the adventure book series Stranded, aimed at middle-grade readers. In early 2026, he released a commemorative book titled Survivor: Forged by Fire, detailing the series’ history and behind-the-scenes evolution over its first 50 seasons.
Probst has been married to Lisa Ann Russell since 2011 and is a devoted stepfather to Russell’s two children, Michael and Ava, from her previous marriage to actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar. He is also heavily involved in philanthropy, specifically through the Alliance for Children’s Rights, which supports youth transitioning out of foster care.
