Deborah Roberts is a distinguished TV journalist and news anchor who has been a cornerstone of ABC’s investigative and human-interest reporting for over three decades. Born in Perry, Georgia, she attended the University of Georgia, from where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
After college, Deborah Roberts worked for various local stations before joining NBC News in 1990 as a general assignment correspondent for Dateline NBC and NBC Nightly News. In 1995, she moved to ABC News, where she spent nearly 30 years working as a correspondent for 20/20. During this stint, she covered everything from global health crises to the most significant crime cases in the United States, while also contributing to other ABC News programs.
In 2023, Roberts was named co-anchor of 20/20 alongside David Muir, succeeding Amy Robach. In addition to her anchoring duties, she continues to serve as a senior national affairs correspondent for ABC, contributing to the network’s other programs, including World News Tonight and Good Morning America.
Deborah Roberts is married to NBC’s Today show weather anchor, Al Roker. They have been married since 1995 and have two children together, in addition to a daughter from Roker’s previous marriage. She has spoken publicly about the challenges of balancing family life with a demanding journalism career.
