Phil Keoghan

Profile Overview

Phil Keoghan is a New Zealand television host and producer. He began his career in New Zealand as a presenter on the children’s show Spot On after auditioning for the role while completing his apprenticeship as a cameraman. He also worked as a reporter on That’s Fairly Interesting and as a presenter on several other New Zealand shows before moving to the United States in the 1990s, after his show Keoghan’s Heroes was picked up by an American network. 

Keoghan gained international recognition when he was selected to host The Amazing Race in 2001. He had originally auditioned to host Survivor, but SBC instead chose him to lead the launch of The Amazing Race. 

To this day, Keoghan continues to serve as host and executive producer of The Amazing Race. In his role, he has traveled to more than 100 countries and overseen the show’s transition into a global phenomenon. In 2020, he expanded his portfolio by co-creating and hosting the reality competition series, Tough as Nails, which focused on the strength and endurance of working-class Americans.

Keoghan is married to Louise Keoghan (née Rodrigues), an Australian award-winning producer, director, and writer, with whom he co-created Tough as Nails. The couple has one daughter, Elle, who also works in television production and was instrumental in the production of Tough as Nails. The couple resides primarily in Los Angeles but maintains strong ties to New Zealand.
