America’s Funniest Home Videos

America’s Funniest Home Videos (AFV) is an American video clip television series that premiered on November 26, 1989, as a special and, later, began regular weekly airings on ABC in 1990. The show was created by Vin Di Bona, based on a recurring segment from the Japanese variety show Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan. It currently stands as ABC’s longest-running primetime entertainment program, having remained on the air continuously for decades.

Each episode of the show features funny home videos submitted by users from around the country. The clips often show people and pets having funny incidents or behaving amusingly on camera. Other clips include creative marriage proposals, individuals and animals demonstrating their remarkable skills, and playful pranks.

Individuals can submit their videos to the show’s official site, AFV.com, via mobile apps, to the show’s official Facebook fan page, or by mailing them to Hollywood. Most submissions consist of brief clips ranging from 5 to 30 seconds, with clips organized around themes mentioned by the host. Each week, the producers pick the three top videos, with studio audiences voting for the winning video, which also earns a chance to compete in seasonal contests for larger grand prizes.

America’s Funniest Home Videos is currently hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro, known for his high-energy, charismatic presence. He assumed the role in 2015, succeeding Tom Bergeron, the show’s longest-running host. Other notable hosts include Bob Saget, the original host, and John Fugelsang and Daisy Fuentes, who co-hosted the show following Saget’s departure.
