Don’t Sit in the Front Row is a Sky Comedy panel show that turns the lives and stories of audience members into material for a group of comedians. Rather than simply performing prepared routines, the comics interact with people sitting in the front row and use their answers, experiences and personalities as inspiration for their jokes.
Each episode features three guest comedians who question members of the audience about their lives. The questions can uncover unusual occupations, relationships, hobbies, experiences and personal anecdotes, giving the comedians plenty of unexpected material to work with.
As the show progresses, the comedians decide which audience members should remain in the competition. Participants are eliminated during the rounds until one person is left standing, adding a light competitive element to the comedy and keeping the audience involved throughout the programme.
The final remaining participant receives the Golden Chair Award, providing a humorous conclusion to the competition. By combining improvisation, stand-up, audience interaction and panel-show elements, Don’t Sit in the Front Row creates a format where ordinary people’s stories become the starting point for unexpected comedy.
The show is hosted by Jack Dee, one of Britain’s best-known stand-up comedians, writers and television presenters. Dee is recognised for his dry, deadpan style of humour and has presented programmes including I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue and Have I Got News for You. In Don’t Sit in the Front Row, he oversees the interaction between the comedians and audience members, providing commentary and helping maintain the show’s quick-witted, playful atmosphere.
