Rece Davis was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where he began freelance announcing and local radio work as early as age 17. He attended the University of Alabama, where he contributed to student media and graduated cum laude in 1988. He then began his professional career as a sports anchor and reporter at local television stations, including WCFT-TV in Tuscaloosa, before joining ESPN in 1995. 

After college, Davis built his sports journalism career in regional television markets throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. For instance, he worked as a sports anchor and reporter for WRBL in Columbus, Georgia, before moving to WJRT-TV in Flint, Michigan, as a sports director. In 1995, he officially joined ESPN, where he hosted SportsCenter, College Football Live, and college football Thursday night broadcasts. 

Presently, Davis serves as ESPN’s primary studio anchor for college football and college basketball programming. He has also hosted College GameDay, the network’s flagship college football and basketball show, since 2015. Additionally, he serves as the main host for the annual College Football Playoff Selection Show and handles play-by-play duties for major basketball matchups.
