Brent Musburger was born on May 26, 1939, in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University before beginning his career as a newspaper sportswriter. Musburger later became sports director at WBBM-TV in Chicago before joining CBS Sports in 1973. His early broadcasting work covered the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA, horse racing, and other major events.

In 1975, Musburger became the host of The NFL Today, helping transform the program into the highest-rated NFL pregame show. He then joined ABC and ESPN in 1990, where he became the lead voice of college football. His assignments also included the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the NBA, golf, NASCAR, tennis, and Monday Night Football. He retired from ESPN in 2017 after a broadcasting career spanning more than four decades.

Musburger returned to broadcasting in 2018 as the radio voice of the Raiders, calling games through the 2021 season. He also co-founded VSiN (Vegas Stats & Information Network), where he serves as a host and managing editor, focusing on sports betting coverage. In 2025, the Pro Football Hall of Fame honored him with the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award for his outstanding contributions to NFL broadcasting.
