Wendi Nix was born in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where she developed a strong interest in sports through her father’s football coaching career. She attended Socastee High School before earning degrees from Wofford College, Union County College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. During college, Nix played golf competitively and also served as student body president at Wofford College.
Nix began her broadcasting career in 1999 at ABC affiliate WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach, where she covered NASCAR and high school sports. She progressed through NESN, FOX Sports New England, and Boston NBC affiliate WHDH-TV before ESPN hired her in August 2006. There, she quickly became a versatile presence across NFL and college football programming, covering The Masters, The Open Championship, and the U.S. Open golf tournaments in addition to football.
At ESPN, Wendi Nix anchored NFL Live, co-hosted Sunday NFL Countdown with Chris Berman, and hosted College Football Live and NFL Rewind. She made history in 2009 as the first woman to emcee the Walter Camp Football Foundation All-America Awards dinner. She left ESPN in 2023 and has since stepped away from mainstream TV networks.
