Peter Schmeichel was born in Gladsaxe, Denmark, on November 18, 1963. He built a legendary goalkeeping career with Manchester United and Denmark, winning the 1999 Champions League and Euro 1992. He retired from professional football in 2003 and moved into broadcasting soon after. He began his media career as a pundit for the BBC’s Match of the Day.

Schmeichel remained a regular BBC analyst until 2005, then began hosting live Champions League coverage on Danish channel TV3+. He hosted that coverage for eight years alongside fellow Danish players Preben Elkjær and Brian Laudrup. In 2006, he competed on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and also appeared on The Weakest Link. He also hosted the Danish game show 1 mod 100 in 2007 and Discovery Channel’s European Dirty Jobs in 2008.

Since 2021, Schmeichel has worked for CBS Sports on its United States broadcasts of the UEFA Champions League. In 2024, he worked for FOX Sports as a studio analyst and sideline reporter for UEFA Euro 2024. He returned to the network as a studio analyst for the 2026 FIFA World Cup across North America. As of 2026, he continues to work as a football broadcaster while remaining a global ambassador for Manchester United.
