Born on 9 December 1979 in Manchester, England, Hayley McQueen grew up deeply connected to the world of football. She is the daughter of legendary footballer Gordon McQueen, a defender who played for Manchester United, Leeds United, and the Scotland national team. Her mother is Yvonne McQueen, who supported the family through his long football career. She also has a sister, Anna, and a brother, Eddie.

In 1994, at the age of 15, McQueen and her family relocated from Scotland to Hutton Rudby in North Yorkshire, England, as her father took up a coaching role at Middlesbrough. McQueen began her television career working as a runner and production assistant for Richard and Judy, before transitioning to sports media. After earning a BA Honours degree in public relations, marketing, and journalism, McQueen spent three years in production roles at a cable television station and two years as a reporter, earning an RTS award as a producer before moving to on-screen presenting.

She first joined Sky Sports and has since become one of the network’s most recognisable faces. She hosted Sky Sports’ flagship Saturday evening Football First Premier League highlights show Match Choice, and while Sky had the rights, anchored the live 3 o’clock Premier League game, shown exclusively in Ireland with full build-up and post-match coverage. She is also the former co-presenter of Sky Sports Champions League, as well as other Sky Sports football programming and the weekly Sportswomen programme.

Alongside her Sky work, she presented for Premier League TV worldwide and has appeared as a guest host on BBC 5 Live’s football phone-in show, as well as hosting duties for Radio X show The Kickabout, standing in for Johnny Vaughan. Hayley is engaged to Kirk Newmann and they have a daughter, Ayla McQueen-Newmann, born 3 October 2019.
