Cole Wright was born in Joliet, Illinois, and grew up rooting for the Chicago Cubs. He played baseball for Waubonsie Valley High School, Waubonsee Community College, and the University of Tennessee at Martin. He eventually transferred to Briar Cliff University in Iowa, where he studied communications.
After college, Wright worked as a weekend sports anchor at KLST-TV in Texas. He later moved to WVLA-TV in Louisiana, where he covered LSU sports and the New Orleans Saints. Wright joined the New England Sports Network (NESN) in 2008, then spent 2011 to 2014 at ESPN, appearing on SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight, NBA Tonight, and multiple college sports shows. From there, he served as an update anchor at Fox Sports 1 before joining the NFL Network in 2015.
In 2020, Wright became the inaugural studio host of Marquee Sports Network, the Chicago Cubs’ own regional sports network. There, he hosts the flagship pregame and postgame shows and anchors Cubs Convention coverage. As of 2026, he continues to anchor Cubs pregame and postgame live programming on Marquee, and also covered the team’s 2025 NL Wild Card run.
