ESPNU

Quick facts about the channel

ESPNU is an American cable sports network centered on collegiate athletics. It was launched in 2005 to give college sports broader exposure beyond major national broadcasts. The channel, part of the ESPN ecosystem, is owned by ESP Inc., a joint venture that includes The Walt Disney Company, Hearst Communications, and the National Football League (NFL).

The network’s programming strategy is built on the diversity of the American collegiate landscape, with live college events across multiple sports. ESPNU regularly airs NCAA football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, lacrosse, and ice hockey. It also covers other sports, including high school, NBA G League, the Olympics, and alternative sports such as collegiate soccer, cheerleading, gymnastics, wrestling, beach volleyball, track & field, and more.

Studio programming plays a key role in ESPNU’s lineup. The network features shows such as College Football Live, College Basketball Live, and SportsCenter, which provide analysis, highlights, and discussion focused exclusively on college athletics. The network also simulcasts ESPN ecosystem shows, including True South, Unsportsmanlike with Evan Canty and Michelle, and 30 for 30.

ESPNU features a specialized roster of talent who are experts in the collegiate ranks. Veteran analysts Tom Luginbill and Matt Stinchcomb lead the network’s college football coverage, while Jay Walker provides in-depth insights into HBCU sports. Other notable figures include Anish Shroff (college sports commentator and ESPN host), Matt Barrie (SportsCentre host and college football coverage), and Rece Davis (ESPN College Gameday host).
