Halloween Wars

Teams of cake artists, sugar sculptors, and pumpkin carvers battle to build the most spectacular Halloween-themed displays.

Halloween Wars is a reality competition series that premiered on Food Network on October 2, 2011. It is produced by Super Delicious, the same production company behind Cupcake Wars and Cake Wars. The show airs each fall, typically running from September through October. Now in its 15th season as of 2025, it has outlasted most of its Food Network competition counterparts and remains a cornerstone of the channel’s Halloween programming slate.

The competition features teams that must build detailed sculptures within a set timeframe. Each team is made up of three specialists: a cake artist, a sugar sculptor, and a pumpkin carver. Together, they build large-scale, Halloween-themed displays that are judged on both creativity and execution.

For Seasons 1 through 12, the winning team took home $50,000. Starting in Season 13, the grand prize was reduced to $25,000. In earlier seasons, each episode also featured a rotating guest judge connected to the world of horror — actors, directors, and special effects artists who added credibility to the judging panel.

Halloween Wars has featured several hosts during its run. Justin Willman served as the show’s original host, taking charge of the first four seasons. Jonathan Bennett then stepped in for Seasons 6 through 10 (2016–2020), before returning in Season 13 (2023). Other hosts include paranormal TV personality Zak Bagans and producer and actor Rossi Morreale.

Shinmin Li has served as a judge since the very first season in 2011, making her the longest-tenured judge in the show’s history. Aarti Sequeira joined the panel in Season 11 and has remained a fixture alongside Li.
