Clubhouse Confidential was a weekday studio show broadcast on MLB Network. It premiered on November 7, 2011, as part of the network’s expanded offseason lineup. It aired at 5:30 p.m. ET on weekdays. The show was MLB Network’s first program built entirely around sabermetric analysis. It aired for roughly three seasons. MLB Network then shifted its analytics programming to a new show, MLB Now, in 2013.
Each episode used modern statistical research and value projections to debate the day’s baseball news and transactions. A recurring segment called “The Shredder” broke down a player’s underlying stats to project future value. Other segments, including “High Heat” and “The Showdown,” used pointed questions to challenge conventional baseball wisdom. The show regularly featured contributors from the sabermetrics community alongside MLB Network’s own analysts.
MLB Network launched a second Brian Kenny-hosted studio show, MLB Now, in April 2013. It paired Kenny’s analytics with the traditional perspective of former player Harold Reynolds. The two shows initially aired concurrently until early 2014. Clubhouse Confidential was then phased out as MLB Now became the network’s primary showcase for Kenny’s analytical format.
Brian Kenny hosted every episode of Clubhouse Confidential throughout its run. Regular contributors included sabermetrics figures such as Bill James, along with writers from Baseball Prospectus, FanGraphs, and The Hardball Times. MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds also made recurring appearances before becoming Kenny’s full-time sparring partner on MLB Now.
