Maurice Edu was born on April 18, 1986, in Fontana, California, to Nigerian immigrant parents. He played college soccer at the University of Maryland, helping the Terrapins win the 2005 NCAA national championship. Toronto FC selected Edu first overall in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, and he immediately won MLS Rookie of the Year after making 25 starts and scoring four goals.

Edu moved to Scotland’s Rangers in 2008 and spent four seasons with the club, winning three Scottish Premier League titles and three domestic cups. He later played for Stoke City, Bursaspor, and Philadelphia Union before injuries ended his playing career. At international level, Edu earned 46 U.S. caps, competed at the 2008 Olympics and 2010 World Cup, and captained the Olympic team during qualifying.

After retiring, Edu transitioned into broadcasting in 2018, starting with FOX Sports. He has since worked on MLS, U.S. national team matches, World Cups, Copa América, and Concacaf competitions. Additionally, he became an analyst for CBS Sports’ Concacaf coverage and a match analyst for MLS on Apple TV. In 2023, he joined Kate Scott, Clint Dempsey, and Charlie Davies as a co-host of Kickin’ It, solidifying his regular role in CBS Sports’ soccer programming.
