Top 10 Right Now! is an annual countdown series broadcast on MLB Network each winter. Its numbered-edition pattern in press materials traces the series back to roughly 2011. That makes it one of MLB Network’s longest-running recurring franchises. The series airs over five weeks and ten episodes, typically beginning in early to mid-January. Each episode ranks the ten best players at a single position.
Rankings weigh player performance over the previous two or three seasons. They combine offensive and defensive metrics, Statcast data, and traditional statistics. A statistical tool nicknamed “The Shredder” generates each list before MLB Network’s analysts debate the results. Fans have been able to submit their own rankings using the hashtag #Top10RightNow since 2017.
The series has broadcast as an MLB Now countdown event since 2013. Before that, it had aired as part of MLB Network’s broader studio programming. Fan voting was added in 2017. In 2024, the show introduced a “Wild Card” pick, letting each analyst add a player outside the data-driven rankings. That same year brought a recurring “Top 10 Not in the Hall of Fame” segment.
Brian Kenny has hosted every edition of Top 10 Right Now! since the series began. Recurring analysts have included Ron Darling, Harold Reynolds, John Smoltz, Mike Lowell, and Cliff Floyd. Baseball writers Jayson Stark, Keith Law, and Tom Verducci have also contributed regularly. Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Costas and radio host Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo have made frequent guest appearances in recent years.
