Golf on NBC

NBC’s coverage of professional golf, spanning the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, majors, prestigious team competitions, and flagship events.

Golf on NBC is the long-running television presentation of professional golf tournaments produced by NBC Sports. The network first televised golf in 1954 and gradually became one of the leading broadcasters of the sport in the United States. Over the decades, the network has carried events from the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, and USGA championships.

The broadcasts primarily focus on live tournament coverage, including player analysis, course reporting, interviews, highlights, and scoring updates. In addition, the network often uses advanced graphics, drone footage, and on-course technology to enhance viewing. NBC’s golf programming has featured many of the sport’s biggest events, including multiple U.S. Opens, Open Championships, and Players Championships.

The program’s coverage underwent a significant structural shift in 2011, when Comcast, NBC’s parent company, acquired Golf Channel and merged its operations into NBC Sports. This brought Golf Channel’s talent, infrastructure, and production resources directly under the NBC umbrella, resulting in the Golf Channel on NBC branding still familiar to viewers today.

In 2026, Comcast spun off its cable networks, including the Golf Channel and USA Network, into a new independent company called Versant. Despite this, the Golf on NBC branding continues to exist on NBC, but it is now limited to coverage that airs on the NBC broadcast network and Peacock, both of which remain under the ownership of NBCUniversal.

NBC’s golf broadcasts have featured many well-known sportscasters. The current on-air team features Dan Hicks, who has served as the lead golf play-by-play commentator since 2000. Hicks is joined in the booth by Cara Banks (lead play-by-play voice for NBC Sports’ LPGA Tour),  Terry Gannon, and Mike Tirico. The broadcast team is also supported by analysts and on-course reporters, including  Kevin Kisner, Brad Faxon, Frank Nobilo,  Jim “Bones” Mackay, Smylie Kaufman, John Wood, and Arron Oberholser, among others.
