CNN Newsroom

CNN’s weekend rolling-news program delivering live reports, interviews and breaking-news coverage from Atlanta and New York.

CNN Newsroom is a rolling news program on CNN that premiered on September 4, 2006. It replaced several existing CNN news blocks, including CNN Live Today, Live From, CNN Saturday, CNN Saturday Night, CNN Sunday, and CNN Sunday Night. The program was created as a unified brand for CNN’s continuing coverage of breaking and developing stories.

The program provides live coverage of major news events, breaking developments, politics, international affairs, and other stories as they develop throughout the day. Its format is built around rolling updates, live correspondents, interviews, field reports, and contributions from CNN’s wider newsgathering operation. Over its history, the program has occupied different weekday and weekend time slots as CNN repeatedly reorganized its daytime schedule.

CNN has also changed how Newsroom fits into its broader daytime lineup. In 2023, CNN replaced much of its weekday Newsroom programming with CNN News Central, while weekend editions of CNN Newsroom continued. The Newsroom brand subsequently returned to parts of the weekday schedule. This changed again, and it was returned to weekend programming on CNN’s domestic channel.

The program has featured a large roster of CNN anchors during its history, including Tony Harris, Carol Lin, Kyra Phillips, Ali Velshi, Brooke Baldwin, Suzanne Malveaux, Don Lemon, John Berman, and Poppy Harlow. CNN’s 2011 daytime lineup, for example, included Phillips, Malveaux, Velshi, and Baldwin in different Newsroom blocks, while Berman and Harlow later co-anchored the program from 2017.

As of 2026, weekend editions include Fredricka Whitfield and Jessica Dean. Whitfield anchors from CNN’s Atlanta headquarters, while Dean hosts the primetime weekend edition from New York and continues her political reporting for the network.
