Randy Scott was born and raised in Vienna, Virginia, where his father served as a two-star Navy admiral at the Pentagon. He attended Northwestern University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 2004. While living in Tampa, Florida, he briefly pursued stand-up comedy, winning a newcomer contest at the Improv in Ybor City. 

Scott began his broadcasting career at KSWO-TV in Lawton, Oklahoma, in 2004 as an anchor and reporter. He progressed to sports director at WNEG-TV in Toccoa, Georgia and later spent four years as anchor and reporter at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. He then joined NESN in Boston as anchor and reporter (2010–2012) before ESPN hired him in June 2012.

At ESPN, Scott quickly established himself as a reliable and engaging anchor across multiple SportsCenter editions. Since 2024, he has co-anchored the weekday 7 a.m. SportsCenter: AM alongside Gary Striewski. In March 2025, ESPN launched SC+, a daily SportsCenter show exclusively for Disney+, and Scott was selected as one of its inaugural co-hosts. Outside the anchor desk, he has contributed to NFL, NBA, and Formula 1 coverage across ESPN and ESPN Radio platforms.
