Paul Burmeister was born on March 10, 1971, in Iowa City, Iowa. He attended Iowa City West High School before playing quarterback at the University of Iowa under head coach Hayden Fry from 1989 to 1993, serving as team captain and MVP his senior season. After a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings in 1995, he transitioned into broadcasting, working as a sports anchor at KCRG in Cedar Rapids and KWWL in Waterloo, Iowa.
Burmeister joined NFL Network in 2004, where he spent a decade hosting studio shows including NFL Total Access, Path to the Draft, and Around the League Live, while also calling play-by-play for the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game. He started working with NBC Sports in 2011, initially as the lead voice for Mountain West Conference football before joining NBC in a full-time role in 2014.
Burmeister now covers a wide range of sports for NBC, including studio hosting for the network’s Premier League coverage, Big Ten college football and basketball play-by-play, and the All-American Bowl. He served as the radio voice of Notre Dame football from 2018 to 2023 and has called four Olympic Games for NBC, including water polo and ski jumping.
