Trivial Pursuit is an American game show based on the trivia board game Hasbro first published in 1981. An earlier TV adaptation, hosted by Wink Martindale, aired on The Family Channel from 1993 to 1994. Hasbro Entertainment revived the format for The CW, where the current series premiered on October 3, 2024. The revival is produced with Talpa Studios and Lionsgate Alternative Television as part of The CW’s family game night lineup.
Three contestants compete across six categories: History, Science, Entertainment, Geography, Sports & Leisure, and Art & Literature. An opening buzzer round eliminates one player before the top two advance to a scored second round. The two finalists then move to a giant Trivial Pursuit board, racing to collect wedges and reach the center first. The winner faces a timed Final Pursuit round for a $20,000 jackpot.
The CW renewed the series for a 30-episode second season that premiered January 22, 2026, doubling its first-season order. In August 2026, the network ordered a third season with a major change: hour-long episodes instead of 30-minute episodes. The longer format packs two half-hour games into each episode. Trivial Pursuit also entered daytime syndication alongside Scrabble and Police 24/7, extending its reach beyond The CW’s primetime schedule.
LeVar Burton has hosted Trivial Pursuit and served as the show’s executive producer since its 2024 premiere. He pursued the role after an unsuccessful audition to host Jeopardy! in 2021. David Hurwitz serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Burton and producers from Talpa and Lionsgate. The series airs as part of The CW’s Thursday game night, following sister show Scrabble, hosted by Craig Ferguson.
