The Amazing Race

A high-stakes competition where teams of two race around the world, navigating intense physical and mental challenges for a chance to win $1 million.

The Amazing Race is a high-speed travel competition that tests contestants’ relationships and resilience. It features teams of two who race across multiple countries while deciphering clues to reach the next destination. The race features “Detours” (a choice between two tasks) and “Roadblocks” (a task only one team member can perform).

Each season of The Amazing Race follows a multi-leg structure, with the last team to arrive at a Pit Stop typically eliminated from the competition. Success depends not only on speed but also on teamwork, communication, and adaptability. Language barriers, transportation mishaps, and unfamiliar customs often play a decisive role in outcomes.

The series traditionally airs on Wednesday nights on CBS. Viewers can stream the most recent seasons and an extensive back catalog of previous seasons on Paramount+. The show is also available on several other platforms in the United States and internationally.

Phil Keoghan has served as the host and face of The Amazing Race since its premiere on September 5, 2001. He is also the show’s executive producer and is famous for his enthusiastic greeting of teams at the Pit Stop mat. His calm demeanor during intense moments has made him a beloved figure in reality television history.

The Amazing Race’s massive logistical scale and its ability to showcase global cultures to a primetime audience have turned it into one of the most successful reality competition franchises. It has won multiple Emmy Awards and inspired several international versions worldwide.
