Beat Bobby Flay

Elite chefs face off for the chance to challenge culinary icon Bobby Flay in a high-stakes, blind-taste-test cooking battle.

Beat Bobby Flay is a culinary competition series that premiered with a pilot episode on August 24, 2013. Developed by Flay and executive producer Kim Martin through Rock Shrimp Productions, the series is taped in front of a live audience at studios in New York City. It has since surpassed 500 episodes across more than 30 seasons, making it one of Food Network’s longest-running competition programs.

The show features a two-round competition in each episode. In the first round, two challenger chefs compete in a 20-minute cook-off using a secret ingredient selected by Flay. A pair of rotating celebrity guest judges — often Food Network personalities or well-known chefs — taste both dishes and select one chef to advance to the next round.

In the second round, the advancing chef picks a signature dish they believe can beat Flay, and both cook it simultaneously for 45 minutes. Three judges evaluate the dishes in a blind taste test, and the winner is announced at the end of the episode. The show borrows its atmosphere from boxing, complete with a bell to start rounds and a healthy amount of trash talking from both sides.

Bobby Flay is the show’s primary host and competitor. Throughout its run, various personalities have joined as judges for the first round, including Alex Guarnaschelli, Jeff Mauro, Giada De Laurentiis, Ted Allen, Anne Burrell, Alton Brown, Duff Goldman, Michael Symon, and Geoffrey Zakarian. In the second round, a rotating group of three industry professionals is responsible for the blind-taste judging.
