Steve Harvey

Profile Overview

Broderick Stephen Harvey was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. He is the youngest of several children of Eloise, a Sunday school teacher, and Jesse Harvey, a coal miner. Harvey’s family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he grew up and graduated from Glenville High School. He later attended Kent State University and West Virginia University but did not complete a degree.

Harvey’s early career was varied—he worked several jobs, including as an insurance salesman, a postal carrier, and an autoworker, before discovering his talent for comedy. In 1985, he began performing stand-up comedy, honing his craft at clubs and eventually moving into television with It’s Showtime at the Apollo. By the early 1990s, Harvey was a recognized comedic presence, appearing on Def Comedy Jam and later starring in sitcoms like The Steve Harvey Show.

In television and radio, Harvey built a diverse career as a host. He launched The Steve Harvey Morning Show in 2000 and continues to host it. Since 2010, Harvey has hosted Family Feud and its celebrity edition, Celebrity Family Feud. He has also fronted shows including Little Big Shots, Steve Harvey’s Funderdome, and the arbitration-based Judge Steve Harvey. In pageantry, he famously hosted Miss Universe starting in 2015.

Harvey’s personal life includes three marriages; he is currently married to Marjorie Bridges.  Together, they lead a large blended family of seven children: Brandi, Karli, Broderick Jr., Wynton, Morgan, Jason, and Lori. Outside his media empire, he is a dedicated philanthropist who, with his wife, founded the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which provides mentoring and educational resources to underserved youth and families.
