Sophy Ridge was born on 17 October 1984 in Richmond upon Thames, London. Both her parents are teachers. Ridge has one younger brother. Growing up in an educational household instilled in her a deep respect for learning and curiosity, and she developed a passion for writing and storytelling from an early age.
Ridge attended The Tiffin Girls’ School, a selective grammar school in London, where her interest in journalism began after doing work experience at the Richmond and Twickenham Times. She subsequently read English Literature at Oxford, before beginning her career in print journalism. Ridge began her journalism career in 2006 as a trainee reporter at the News of the World, later becoming a consumer affairs correspondent in 2009. In 2011, she joined Sky News as a political correspondent.
Her big break came when she was assigned to cover the 2015 general election, during which she interviewed key figures from across the political spectrum. In 2017, she launched Sophy Ridge on Sunday, becoming the first woman to host a Sunday morning political programme in the UK. In September 2023, she moved to a new weeknight political programme, Politics Hub with Sophy Ridge, which she hosted until October 2025. Ridge began co-presenting Sky News Breakfast in November 2025 alongside Wilfred Frost.
Sophy Ridge married Ben Griffiths in 2014. The couple have two children and maintain a relatively private family life. They are based in London.
