Shahbaz Majeed was born and raised in Dundee, Scotland. His father, Abdul, was a well-known Broughty Ferry shopkeeper who emigrated from Pakistan in the 1970s.

He attended Wallacetown Nursery, Glebelands Primary, and Morgan Academy in Dundee, then studied computing at Dundee University. Photography began as a hobby, but a 2011 win in the Network Rail category of the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition — for a shot of a train crossing the Tay Rail Bridge — brought national attention and launched his career as a professional landscape and aerial photographer.

BBC Scotland Landward producers discovered his work in 2021, and he has co-presented segments with Dougie Vipond, Cammy Wilson and others on the show ever since, alongside a running feature inviting viewers to submit their own photography. He continues to work full-time as an infrastructure delivery manager with Social Security Scotland.

He lives in Dundee with his wife, Shazia, and their two daughters, Aena (14) and Aiza (11), who he says give “brutally honest feedback” on his TV appearances. One of his daughters had health issues requiring hospital time when younger, prompting him to later donate photography to Ninewells Hospital’s oncology ward.
