Philip Nathaniel Wang Sin Goi was born on 22 January 1990 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, to an English mother and a Chinese-Malaysian (Hakka) father from Sabah, Malaysia. Weeks after his birth the family relocated to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, where he was raised and educated in Malay, Mandarin, and English.

He began secondary studies at Maktab Nasional in Kota Kinabalu before moving to Jerudong International School in Brunei, then relocated to Bath, England at age 16, attending Kingswood School before studying a four-year engineering degree at King’s College, Cambridge, where he served as president of the Cambridge Footlights in 2012.

Wang built his stand-up career through the 2010s, becoming a member of sketch group Daphne and appearing regularly on panel shows. He released two Netflix stand-up specials and published the book Sidesplitter: How to Be from Two Worlds at Once (2021).

In 2026, Wang joined BBC Two’s Great British Menu as a judge alongside Tom Kerridge and Lorna McNee, with Andi Oliver continuing as host, having previously appeared as a guest judge on the show in 2021.
