
Peter Alexander is an American journalist, correspondent, and TV presenter working for NBC News. A graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, he began his career working for various local stations, including KCPQ-TV in Seattle, KHQ-TV in Spokane, and WKYT (CBS 27) in Lexington.
In 2004, Alexander joined NBC News and quickly became a key correspondent for international stories. He reported on the 2005 Iraq elections, the death of Osama bin Laden, and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. In 2012, he was named a White House correspondent, a role that saw him covering the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations
Alexander’s role at NBC expanded in 2018, when he was named the co-anchor of the Saturday edition of Weekend Today, succeeding Craig Melvin. As of early 2026, he continues to balance his anchoring duties with his role as Chief White House Correspondent. His duties also extend to other NBC programs, including covering the 2026 Winter Olympics and acting as a correspondent and fill-in anchor/host for NBC Nightly News and Meet the Press.
Peter Alexander is married to Alison Starling, a former news anchor. The couple lives in Washington, D.C. with their two children, daughters, Ava and Emma. He is a strong advocate for Usher Syndrome research, a cause he champions in support of his sister, Rebecca Alexander, who lives with the condition.
