Gillian Angela Joseph was born on 20 July 1969 in Coventry, Warwickshire, England. Her parents originated from Dominica in the Caribbean. After her birth in England, the family returned to Dominica, where her mother worked as a teacher, before later returning to England. This dual upbringing gave Gillian a rich multicultural perspective that has shaped her journalism throughout her career.

She studied Broadcast Journalism at City, University of London, graduating with an MA. She began her broadcasting career in BBC regional and radio newsrooms, working at BBC North in Manchester and as a radio reporter for Radio Merseyside. In 1994, she joined BBC Radio 1’s flagship youth news programme Newsbeat.

In 1998 she relocated to London, presenting Newsroom South East until 2001, followed by its replacement BBC London News until 2005. That year she made the move to Sky News, where she would go on to establish herself as one of the network’s most recognised faces.

At Sky News she co-anchored Sky News Sunrise (2007–2016), co-anchored Sky News Breakfast at weekends (October 2019–summer 2021), and then presented the weekend editions of Sky News at Ten (summer 2021–January 2026). She also co-hosted the 2004 faith series Evidence: Through My Experience with Pastor Dwight K. Nelson.

When Sky News at Ten evolved into the new late-night show The Wrap, Gillian Joseph was confirmed alongside Anna Botting as a co-presenter. She presents the Friday–Sunday editions of The Wrap, which runs from 10pm until midnight as a rolling late-night hub for live reporting, expert commentary and agenda-setting discussion. She is married to Tunde Adebayo and they have three children together, based in England.
