Anna Elizabeth Botting was born on 4 November 1967 in Cranleigh, Surrey, England. She is the daughter of Douglas Botting, an explorer and author, and Louise Botting, a company director and former broadcaster. Growing up in a household steeped in storytelling, adventure, and media, Anna developed an early interest in journalism.
She began her career in the media industry at the age of 23 after studying Geography at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, and completing her postgraduate journalism training at Cardiff University. Her career kicked off with the BBC before joining Sky News in 1995.
Before joining Sky News, she started as a researcher for Granada Television in Manchester, working on a social action show. From 1991, she worked at BBC North as a reporter for both radio and television, serving as a reporter-presenter for Look North. In 1995, Anna Botting joined Sky News as a reporter, marking the beginning of what would become an illustrious career with the network.
The Wrap launched on January 26th as an innovative programme representing a bold new direction for Sky News’s evening schedule, designed to focus on debating, analysing, and making sense of the day’s most important stories. Running from 10pm until midnight, it features panels of leading experts and special guests engaging in live conversation about top news developments.
Anna is in a long-term relationship with Nick Purdue, with whom she has two children, and the family is based in England. She continues to serve as Chief Presenter at Sky News.
