Boris Sanchez was born in Havana, Cuba, on November 15, 1985. His family immigrated to Miami, Florida, when he was still a young child. He attended Miami Lakes Educational Center, then Miami Dade College, before transferring to Syracuse University. He graduated in 2009 with a degree in broadcast journalism and international relations, inspired in part by his grandfather’s imprisonment under Cuba’s regime.

Sanchez began his television career anchoring weekends at KRCR in Redding, California, in 2010. He spent three years at FOX 31 in Denver, where he won a 2015 Heartland Regional Emmy. He joined CNN in June 2015 as a New York correspondent, then moved to Miami the next year. His coverage of the 2016 Charlotte protests helped CNN win an Edward R. Murrow Award.

Sanchez served as a CNN White House correspondent from 2017 to 2021, covering the Trump administration. He then co-anchored New Day Weekend before joining CNN News Central at its April 2023 launch. He has co-anchored the afternoon edition alongside Brianna Keilar since then, a role he also briefly shared with Jim Sciutto. Sanchez has helped lead coverage of Trump’s legal cases, the 2024 campaign, and major Supreme Court rulings.
