Allen Bestwick was born on September 24, 1961, in Newport, Rhode Island. He developed an interest in racing while watching his father compete at Seekonk Speedway. At 15, he began broadcasting on his high school’s radio station before becoming the public address announcer at Seekonk Speedway a year later. He later joined Motor Racing Network, where he worked as a race reporter, producer, and eventually lead announcer.

Bestwick moved into television during the 1990s and joined NBC Sports in 1999. He became the network’s lead NASCAR play-by-play announcer before later serving as a pit reporter. In 2007, he joined ESPN, where he hosted NASCAR Countdown and NASCAR Now before becoming the lead play-by-play announcer for NASCAR and IndyCar coverage. He also called college football and other major sporting events for ESPN and ABC.

Allen Bestwick left ESPN in 2017, but remained active across multiple racing series. He served as the lead announcer for the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX). He then returned to ESPN when it acquired SRX rights in 2023, and continues as one of the lead public address announcers at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Beyond motorsports, he has also called UConn women’s basketball for SNY.
