Al Roker is an American television personality, weather anchor, and journalist best known for his decades-long role on NBC’s Today. He was born Albert Lincoln Roker Jr. on August 20, 1954, in Queens, New York City. He attended the State University of New York at Oswego, where he earned a degree in communications in 1976. While in college, Roker worked as a weather anchor at WHEN-TV (a CBS affiliate) as well as a DJ at the campus radio station. 

After college, Roker worked as a weathercaster for several TV outlets before joining NBC’s flagship station, WNBC-TV, in 1983. He started as a weekend weathercaster and was shortly promoted to the station’s weekday night weathercaster. While at WNBC-TV, he also served as a substitute weather anchor for NBC news programs such as NBC News at Sunrise and the Today Show. 

Al Roker took over as the regular weekday weather anchor on NBC’s Today after Willard Scott left the show. He has served as the program’s weather anchor co-host on the third hour since then. Over his career, he has won multiple Emmy Awards and holds a Guinness World Record for a 34-hour live weather report in 2014. 

Al Roker has been married three times, first to his college girlfriend, Mary Puglisi (1976–1983). His second marriage was to WNBC producer Alice Bell (1984–1994), with whom she adopted a daughter. He is currently married to TV journalist Deborah Roberts (married 1995), and the couple has two children: a daughter and a son.
