Unwrapped

Unwrapped was a documentary-style show that aired on Food Network starting in 2001. The series focused on behind-the-scenes looks at the production of well-known food products across the United States. It became one of the network’s long-running programs before ending its original run in 2011.

Each episode featured multiple segments highlighting different foods, often connected by a theme such as chocolate, breakfast items, or holiday treats. Cameras followed the manufacturing process from raw ingredients through packaging and distribution. The show combined factory tours, company history, and trivia about food brands and innovations.

The original series was hosted by Marc Summers, who provided narration and on-site interviews. Food Network later revived the original format entirely with Unwrapped 2.0 in 2015, hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro, though Summers had no involvement in that version.

Unwrapped was distinct from the network’s cooking competitions and instructional shows. Instead, it functioned as an informational series centered on food manufacturing, branding, and food industry processes. The show’s success spanned several extensions, including Trivia Unwrapped, a game show spin-off also hosted by Summers, and Rewrapped — a Chopped-style competition in which chefs recreated iconic snack foods featured in classic Unwrapped clips.
