Top Chef: Just Desserts is an American reality competition series that aired on the cable network Bravo. It premiered on September 15, 2010, as a direct spin-off of Top Chef, and was produced by Magical Elves Productions — the same company behind both Top Chef and Project Runway. The series ran for two seasons and ended with its finale on October 26, 2011.
The show’s premise was straightforward but compelling: instead of generalist chefs, the contestants were all pastry specialists. Each episode featured two challenges. First came the “Quickfire, a fast-paced test of basic skills and instinct. That was followed by the Elimination Challenge, a more complex task designed to push creativity, versatility, and the ability to perform under pressure.
The competition followed an elimination format, with one chef sent home each week until a single winner claimed the title. Season one’s winner was Yigit Pura. Season two’s title went to Chris Hanmer, whose finale challenge drew inspiration from the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France — widely considered the most prestigious pastry competition in the world.
Gail Simmons, a longtime Top Chef judge, served as host for both seasons. Johnny Iuzzini, the celebrated executive pastry chef at Restaurant Jean-Georges, held the head judge seat. Rounding out the panel were Hubert Keller — the acclaimed chef behind the famed Fleur de Lys restaurant and a Top Chef Masters finalist — and Dannielle Kyrillos, an entertaining expert and editor-at-large of DailyCandy
