The View is an American daytime talk show that premiered on ABC in 1997. It was created by veteran broadcast journalist Barbara Walters as a forum for women of different generations and backgrounds to discuss the day’s top stories. The show quickly became a defining part of ABC’s daytime lineup and has remained one of the most influential talk shows on television.
The program is structured around a daily roundtable discussion called “Hot Topics,” where the co-hosts debate political headlines, social issues, and entertainment news. In recent years, the show has placed a strong emphasis on political analysis, particularly during election cycles, while still covering lifestyle and cultural stories. The format also includes in-studio and remote interviews with politicians, actors, authors, and other public figures.
As of 2026, the program is currently in its 29th season, broadcasting live five days a week from the network’s Studio B in downtown Manhattan. The show remains America’s most-watched daytime talk program, consistently leading the ratings by tackling divisive issues with directness.
The View features a panel of co-hosts that currently comprises Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro. Over the years, the show has featured many notable co-hosts, including creator Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Rosie O’Donnell, Sherri Shepherd, Meghan McCain, and others.
The permanent co-hosts for The View have, so far, been women. However, the show has, on occasion, featured male guest moderators, including Tom Bergeron, journalist Bryant Gumbel, actor D. L. Hughley, and television host Joe Scarborough.
