The Uplift

The Uplift is a dedicated show for positive news within the CBS News ecosystem. It prioritizes character-driven narratives that emphasize kindness, resilience, and community spirit. Each episode features a collection of short segments that spotlight individuals making a difference in their communities. This approach offers a hopeful alternative to the often heavy nature of modern news cycles.

The Uplift premiered on CBS in 2022 as part of its weekend news programming block, offering a unique twist on traditional news coverage by focusing on positive, inspirational stories rather than breaking headlines. It quickly gained popularity for its focus on viral, heartwarming content and became one of the most high-performing news segments.

Shanelle Kaul is the program’s primary host, bringing an empathetic and engaging voice to its storytelling. She took over the role from Tony Dokoupil, who served as the show’s first anchor while also co-hosting CBS Mornings. The series also features other contributors, such as David Begnaud, who provides many of the show’s most emotional and in-depth field reports.

Since its premiere, The Uplift has covered several inspiring news stories, most notably the “America the Beautiful” series to commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary. Another notable story is that of Taylor Schenker, who launched the “Photos from Helene” project to reunite people with family photos lost during Hurricane Helene.
