The Talk

The Talk was a daytime television broadcast that premiered on CBS on October 18, 2010, and concluded its run on December 20, 2024. Developed by actress Sara Gilbert, the show was created to fill the network timeslot left by the cancellation of the long-running soap opera As the World Turns. During its 15-season history, the program produced 2,993 episodes and won two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment in 2016 and 2018.

The show’s programming centered on a panel of co-hosts who engaged in conversational debates regarding the day’s headlines, trending news, and family-oriented topics. The daily format traditionally included a signature opening “chat” segment, followed by interviews with actors, authors, and musical guests. During its final week on the air, the broadcast incorporated massive holiday giveaways, gifting over $2.5 million to its studio audience to celebrate its legacy.

The broadcast underwent numerous cast changes and thematic shifts throughout its time on television. Initially focused heavily on the perspective of motherhood, the show eventually broadened its scope to appeal to a wider general daytime audience. The series modernized its staging over the years and notably shifted its casting strategy in 2021 by adding its first full-time male co-host, Jerry O’Connell, to diversify the panel’s viewpoints.

At the time of its series finale, the hosting lineup consisted of Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots, Jerry O’Connell, Akbar Gbajabiamila, and Natalie Morales, who served as the moderator. Underwood remained the longest-serving co-host, having joined the panel in the show’s second season. Notable former hosts who shaped the program’s early years include creator Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen Moonves, Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler, and Leah Remini. Following its cancellation, CBS replaced The Talk with a new daytime soap opera titled Beyond the Gates.
