The Quiz with Balls is a fast-paced game show that premiered on FOX in 2024 and quickly became a summer breakout hit. Based on a successful Dutch format from Talpa Studios, the series combines intellectual pressure with large-scale physical stunts. The series offers a mix of trivia and physical comedy, which has helped establish it as a cornerstone of Fox’s unscripted lineup.
The show features two families of five competing from a raised platform hovering over a giant pool. Each multiple-choice question has six answers, each assigned to a ramp with a massive ball sitting at the top. Contestants stand at the bottom of the ramp for their chosen answer — if they are right, the ball rolls to a stop just before hitting them. If they are wrong, the ball thunders down, launching them straight into the water.
The more players each family loses, the harder the remaining questions become. The last dry family member advances to the bonus Golden Balls round, where five correct answers win the team $100,000.
Season 2, which premiered in June 2025, changed format from five rounds to three and introduced a lifeguard on set to help the eliminated players out of the pool. This practical addition quickly became a fan favourite. A new “All or Nothing” round was also added, raising the pressure for teams looking to bank serious money before the final.
Jay Pharoah has served as the host of The Quiz with Balls since the show’s debut. A former cast member on Saturday Night Live and a stand-up comedian known for his spot-on celebrity impressions, Pharoah brings an energetic and genuinely funny presence to the chaos around him.
