The Floor

One hundred trivia experts stand on a massive LED floor and duel neighboring opponents one by one, with the last player to claim the entire board win.

The Floor premiered on January 2, 2024, and quickly became a cornerstone of FOX’s unscripted lineup. Based on the successful Dutch format created by John de Mol (the mind behind The Voice and Big Brother), the American version is known for its grand scale and “spectacle-driven” gameplay.

The gameplay centers on “The Randomizer,” which selects a contestant to become the challenger. That player must then choose a neighboring opponent to duel in the opponent’s chosen category. Duels are fast-paced, timed identification rounds where contestants must name images or words related to a specific topic before their 45-second clock runs out. The winner claims the loser’s territory, while the loser is immediately eliminated from the game. The process repeats until one contestant controls the entire floor, winning $250,000.

The show has introduced several format twists across its seasons. From Season 2 onward, contestants who win three consecutive duels earn a Time Boost — five extra seconds to use in a future duel. Season 4 added the Category Steal, allowing a winning streak holder to take a rival’s trivia category, and introduced a Golden Square that awards a $10,000 bonus to whoever wins that category’s duel. Season 4 also carried the theme “America Duels,” featuring two representatives from each U.S. state.

The Floor is hosted by Rob Lowe, who also serves as a co-executive producer. The Floor is his second game show on FOX, following Mental Samurai in 2019. Lowe has signed a first-look unscripted development deal with FOX Entertainment, with The Floor cited as the centerpiece of that partnership.
