The Bachelorette is an American reality dating series that premiered on ABC in 2003 as a spin-off of the massive hit show The Bachelor. The show follows a single bachelorette as she dates a group of men over several weeks, eliminating contestants through rose ceremonies until she selects a final partner.
The inaugural season featured Trista Rehn, the runner-up from the first season of The Bachelor, setting a precedent for the franchise to cast its leads from previous seasons’ fan favorites. Over more than two decades, the show has evolved into a cultural pillar of reality television, known for its dramatic “limo entrances,” emotional “fantasy suite” dates, and the high-stakes final rose ceremony.
The show’s format centers on the Bachelorette’s journey to find a partner among several suitors. Contestants participate in themed group dates and intimate one-on-one excursions designed to test their compatibility and character. The “First Impression Rose” remains the most coveted prize of the premiere night, while the “Hometown Dates” serve as a crucial late-season milestone where the lead meets the families of her final four suitors to assess their future together.
Jesse Palmer serves as the show’s host, guiding contestants and the lead through dates, rose ceremonies, and other activities. He took over the role in 2022, permanently filling in for former host Chris Harrison, who hosted the show from its debut season through 2021. Former Bachelorettes, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams, also appeared on the show in season 17 as co-hosts following Chris Harrison’s departure.
