Sunday Today – known as Sunday Today with Willie Geist – is an American Sunday morning news programme on NBC. It is part of the Today franchise, which first expanded to Sundays in 1987. However, the programme took on its current identity — and its distinctive title — in April 2016, when NBC handed the broadcast to solo anchor Willie Geist and gave it a more personality-driven, weekend-friendly format.
Each Sunday, the show covers the day’s top news stories, weather updates, and previews of the week ahead. It features several segments, such as The Sunday Sitdown, a recurring, in-depth one-on-one interview with a major celebrity or cultural figure. The Sunday Spotlight, meanwhile, focuses on compelling human-interest stories from across the country.
In addition to these segments, the show also regularly includes previews of NBC’s Meet the Press, with moderator Kristen Welker also appearing to offer political analysis. Besides Welker, the show also features other NBC News personalities, including correspondents Molly Hunter, Joe Fryer, and Kelly O’Donnell. Additionally, Dylan Dreyer has previously served as the weather anchor, while Hallie Jackson filled in as an anchor.
Willie Geist has been the sole anchor of the programme since its April 2016 launch. A veteran NBC journalist who joined the network in 2006, Geist also co-anchors Morning Joe on MS NOW and frequently fills in across the broader Today franchise.
